Each student lecture in the following modules will be 40 mins long. They are distributed as follow:
-20 mins of interactive presentation,

-10mins of participatory exercises in groups and

-10 mins of discussion.

In every presentation, local examples and problems relevant to the students will be developed.

This module addresses the complexity that is inherent to approaching sustainability issues in an urban context. The module is divided in 5 lectures that will look into eco-towns and sustainble communities as well as waste and water treatment and transportation systems.

This module takes a wide approach to climate change. It addresses both the science behind cliamte change as well as the politics and policy of it.

Global Inequity

Global Inequity

This module introduces the learners to the concepts of developed and underdeveloped nations. development aid as well as internaional policies are addressed in this module.

This modules approaches the fields of ethics as related to sustainability issues. It addresses the notions of intergenerational equity as well as anthropocentrism and biocentrism.

Sustainable Lifestyles

Sustainable Lifestyles

This modules addresses green consumerism and the ecological footprint associated with our lifestyles.

Biodiversity

Biodiversity

This module addresses the concepts of biodiversity and how it is linked with ecosystem services. This module also includes a workshop.

Water cycle

Water cycle

This module addresses the global water cycle and the notion of virtual water. A case study of the Uppsala region is also provided.

Carbon cycle

Carbon cycle

This module introduces the learners to the carbon cycle and how it is , currently, being altered. Then , it addresses the effects that it can have on ecosystems. Carbon sequestration is also addressed.

Civic Courage

Civic Courage

This short modules address the notion of civic courage, a crucial issue in sustainability. It introduces the green belt movement and, in a second lecture, addresses the notion of institutional limitations and its implications for civic courage.

Future Technologies

Future Technologies

This module introduces the learners to the future technologies that may, one day, have great benefits for society. Biotechnology as well as geo-engineering are addressed.
